Some years ago Sharon and I wanted to start a store in Branson. We were going to call it “The Forgotten Gift” after the poem below. The store had to wait and when we did open in St. Louis later on we named the store “I Don’t Want to Kiss a Llama!” This blog is our way of remembering “The Forgotten Gift” and the gifts that God has given us to share with you.
THE FORGOTTEN GIFT
He put it on his Christmas list when he was just a boy
And he prayed to Jesus often for this gift was not a toy.
For many years he sought it but it was never there
And sometimes he grew bitter for it just did not seem fair.
There were many things to do. The boy became a man.
The gift he asked for he forgot but Jesus had a plan.
“Lose your life for me. Treat others as yourself.”
When the man had done these things his gift came off the shelf.
And now he walks in wonder, a smile of joy upon his face.
He got the gift he asked for. Jesus gave him grace.
